With the project Concert Against Totalitarianism, the HAMU in Prague has been joining the nationwide celebrations of 17 November since 2014, commemorating not only the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution but also the International Student Day, which was proclaimed after the tragic events of 17 November 1939. The Concert Against Totalitarianism is also an expression of respect for all those who have faced or are forced to face some form of injustice.
On the stage of their alma mater, the concert brings together talented HAMU students with teachers and successful alumni, and in recent years, interesting foreign guests have also been invited to perform. The musical dramaturgy of the concerts reflects the works of authors whose lives were marked by totalitarian regimes. All in all, the audience is offered a unique cultural experience that has already taken its permanent place in the programme of the celebrations of the Day of the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy.
The atmosphere of the evenings of 17 November in the Martinů Hall with its festive audience and performers bursting with energy is captured by the project's court photographer Michael Romanovský. He has been sensitively recording the musicians during the perfect performances of the compositions with his lens and with an understanding of the top musical performances since the early years, only in 2022 he was stood in by Tomáš Lisý.
